Safeguarding Our Wild Paradise
WRLT conserves lands and waters across 2.3 million acres spanning Oregon’s Coos, Curry and southern Douglas counties. The lands that have been protected to date have mostly been in response from development pressures such as clear-cuts or other forms of ecological degradation.
The goal is to work with landowners with lands of high conservation value and find a way to protect critical habitat, create buffers, improve ecosystem resilience, protect critical natural resources and their services, and perform landscape scale conservation. These methods will have the highest value and impact, and the progress to date is featured below. From the dunes of Tenmile Lakes, southward to the headwaters of the Winchuck River near Brookings, we serve twelve watersheds and numerous communities along 135 miles of breathtaking coastline replete with wild rivers, working lands, fishing communities, abundant estuaries, and ancient forests.
